What is gypsum and how is it used in plastering? 

Gypsum is a soft sulfate mineral and is the main component of plaster and chalk products. Alabaster gypsum has recorded uses dating back to ancient civilisations, such as those in Ancient Egypt, Ancient Rome and later in medieval England, where the product was used in sculpture.

Around the world, gypsum has countless uses including those in the construction industry as a plaster finish for walls and ceilings, uses in medicine and dentistry for fixing surgical splints, making plaster impressions and in cosmetic products, and gypsum has also been found to make an excellent fertiliser and soil conditioner.

When Mican Plastering works with British Gypsum products, our housebuilder clients and their homebuyers are protected by the unique British Gypsum SpecSure® Systems Warranty. What is SpecSure® and what benefits does it deliver?

SpecSure® guarantees that British Gypsum products will perform as specified, for the lifetime of the building they're applied to. The warranty provides valuable reassurance for both our clients and their buyers that drylining systems are built to last and with quality maintained, protecting buildings and those who invest in them.

SpecSure guarantees that British Gypsum plastering and drylining systems:

• Contain components of the highest quality
• Will achieve the performance as claimed for the lifetime of the building
• Will be repaired or replaced in the (unlikely!) event of a system performance failure due to a defect
• Have been developed by a drylining specialist with leading technical expertise and experience
• Are regularly tested and retested in UKAS-accredited fire, acoustic and structural testing labs
• Are supported, both on-site and in the office, by British Gypsum's drylining technical experts

In order to offer the SpecSure® warranty, Mican Plastering completed an audit by British Gypsum to confirm that we were accepted to the scheme.

Mican Plastering qualified by demonstrating that we specify, install and finish British Gypsum systems for our Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire housebuilder clients in line with British Gypsum's White Book recommendations and the organisation's technical team's guidance.

We confirmed that systems applied where SpecSure® is offered utilise only British Gypsum and Isover components.
